Officious waiter!
|
My husband and I decided to try Shark's Cavern last night (Saturday). Arrived at 7 pm. Restaurant was about 1/5 full. We were seated by a very friendly host and he allowed us to sit "wherever we wanted." When the waiter came over to ask for our drink order, I asked,"What is your house wine?" He looked at me quizzically. I repeated my question. He said, "I'm not sure what you mean." I told him that most restaurants have a wine that they serve as their "house wine." He replied with an air of arrogance, "Oh... do you mean the least expensive one?" I put down my napkin, as did my husband, and we told him we'd come back another time. Which I never intend to do. Regardless of the "class" of restaurant, no server should treat a patron as if the patron is being "looked down upon," which is exactly the impression we received from that waiter. Unless this is the first time he has ever worked as a server/waiter, he certainly knew what I meant by "house wine," i.e., what do you offer if someone asks for "your house cabernet," "your house pinot grigio," "your house chardonnay." The correct response would be, "Did you want a white or red? We have X, Y and Z." Shark's Cavern has just lost 2 potential customers as well as assuring that we will never recommend this restaurant to our friends - in fact, we will discourage them from trying it.
